Orthodontics

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontists usually use braces and clear aligners to set the patient’s teeth. It is the speciality of dentistry that is concerned with the treatment of improper bites and crooked teeth. We recommend Invisalign as our preferred method or orthodontics.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that are custom-made specifically for your teeth. As you replace each aligner every two weeks, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week, gradually moving towards the projected final position.

What will my dentist do?

Before a treatment plan can be created, your dentist will take an impression of your teeth to check whether they can be straightened using the Invisalign System. Once confirmed, a detailed treatment plan will then be developed using ClinCheck, invisaligns virtual 3D treatment plan. ClinCheck shows the series of movements your teeth are projected to go through over the course of the treatment – so you can see how your teeth are expected to look at the end of your Invisalign treatment before it even begins.

When you begin your Invisalign treatment, you will wear each set of custom-made aligners in two-week increments. As you progress through the series of aligners, your teeth will begin moving, little by little, gradually moving towards the projected final position.

During this time you will have occasional check-ups with your dentist in order to monitor your progress and ensure you are comfortable with the treatment.

The time it takes to complete the treatment varies from person to person, depending on the complexity of each straightening issue. It is important to speak with your dentist to determine how Invisalign best suits your situation and goals, and to agree the best way forward for you.

What are the benefits?

  • Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible. No one may even notice that you’re wearing these virtually invisible aligners, making Invisalign a seamless fit with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others.
  • Invisalign aligners are removable giving you the flexibility to eat and drink what you want during treatment by simply removing the aligners. And you can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and to maintain good oral hygiene.
  • Unlike traditional fixed braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that in most cases less time is spent in your dentists practice for adjustments.

And finally, Invisalign allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you even begin treatment so you can see how your teeth are expected to look when your treatment is complete
